History of TaffMog
The centre was originally named after the River Taf in West Wales rather than the more recently used common nickname for a Welshman and the river in Cardiff.
The story began in October 1974 when Colin & Vicki took delivery of their new Morgan. In Dec/Jan they attended the Bristol Centre Noggins where they met Dave Parker (sec.) and John Hancock, a wizard on spare parts and information for Flat Rads.
In February 1975 they, along with Bob and Jan Phillips (Swansea people awaiting delivery of an orange 4 seater), joined the Bristol Centre at the Abbey Hotel for the annual dinner. It was at this event that they spoke to Brian, Molly and Dennis Parsons and asked them if they would be interested in coming to noggins closer to Cardiff and they said yes. So an advert was put in the Western Mail (a paper that has wide distribution in South and West Wales), asking people who had Morgan cars, or were interested in Morgans, to come to a meeting in The Bear Hotel in Cowbridge, the second Thursday of the month in either March or April 1975.
Five Morgans came to this first meeting, these belonged to John Hancock (Bristol Centre), Dave & Jackie from Newport, Brian & Molly's, Lyn from Dunvant and Colin and Vicki’s. Another six people came who did not have Morgans, but were interested in getting one or had a car and they were rebuilding it.
As it was such a successful evening it was agreed that they would make it a regular meeting the second Thursday of the month. A monthly newsletter was produced by Vicki and it was agreed it would be done by someone new every three months.
The first family outing was to Llangorse Lakes for a picnic and a walking treasure hunt. It was agreed to keep everything simple, help where needed with Morgan maintenance and enjoy a few short runs during the summer months.
The first TaffMog Badge was made by Colin, who supplied one to all newcomers.
Welcome to TaffMog, which is affiliated to the Morgan Sports Car Club (MSCC). The MSCC started life as the Morgan 4/4 Club, advertised in a short paragraph in 'The Autocar' on the 18th May 1951. The Morgan Plus Four had been introduced only a year earlier. Both the 4/4 and the Plus Four models are among the current range of Morgan cars -
TafMog is a friendly and active group based in southern half of Wales runs a number of local activities including regular monthly 'Noggins' to which all interested Morgan owners are welcome to come along for a chat. There are occasional runs and social events organised by members, and TaffMog actively participates in the national events organised by the MSCC. The annual 'Wicked Welsh Weekend' organised by TaffMog is hugely popular with Morgan owners all over the country, and really is an event not to be missed if you have a Morgan. Here you will find a calendar of forthcoming events together with reports of some of the local activities; we feel sure that there is something for everyone in it.
