Stuart's  July 19 Blog.

On the 13th July the BBC’s weather forecast showed a 2% chance of rain for Llantilio Crosseny, but as we queued to find our allocated space at the Hog’s Head the 2% found us. It was only a short burst of light drizzle and it soon cleared to make way for bright sunshine in the afternoon. This was the fifth show organised by the Masonic Province of Monmouthshire and its popularity seems to be growing. There were a large number of classic vehicles, ranging from large military vehicles to motorcycles, and Taffmog were well represented with seven Morgans on display.

It was good to see Cheryl and Jeff O’Brien with their eye catching Giallo Fly Yellow Plus 8. Also there was Richard Gregory, who we hadn’t seen for a long while. The facilities were excellent with a variety of food stands catering for all tastes at a reasonable price. By late afternoon, with the crowds thinning, we called it a day and set off for home though our Centre Secretary stayed on for the evening function, spending the night in a shepherd’s hut on site. How did the counting of sheep work?

Cheryl O’Brien put pen to paper and came up with a commemorative poem:

“As a bejewelled necklace snaked across green baize

They came slowly, roaring with the strength of dragons

The quiet lanes alive now with the dreams of men.

Slowly one by one, they enter the arena

Small groups of glistening colour, glowing against the rural backdrop.

Then enters the Morgan, a diamond in any jewelled cluster.

Silently they form a line, the crown of the show.

One last polish of the gleaming colours, chrome reflecting the sun.

All is ready.

Taffmog have arrived.

Let the games commence.”

As usual the Usk Noggin was well attended though, having heard nothing from Bridgend, I’m not sure that theirs was.

Jan reports: “Our new venue seems to be working out okay with a full house at the last noggin. It was nice to see Simon and Natalie, we never knew Simon owned civilian clothes as we’ve always seen him in his chef whites. Nearly all of Taffmog West will be off to Silverstone for the Classic at the end of the month. Hope to see you there. Our next Noggin will be on Friday 23rd August.”
